“Some Kind of Courage” Wins an Earphones Award!

I’m so thrilled that the audiobook version of Some Kind of Courage was honored by AudioFile Magazine with an Earphones Award! I absolutely love how the audiobook narrator, Andrew Eiden, performed the story. He really got into the heart and head of Joseph. You can check their review out here: http://www.audiofilemagazine.com/reviews/read/110257/some-kind-of-courage-by-dan-gemeinhart/

I’m an Indies Introduce book!

I’m so honored and flattered that The Honest Truth was chosen by the American Booksellers Association as one of its 10 Middle Grade and Young Adult “Indies Introduce” selections (of notable debut novels) for Winter/Spring 2015! As a lifelong lover and supporter of local indie bookstores, an honor from this group really means the world to me. Shop local, folks…indie bookstores are the best  places to buy books, and indie booksellers are the best folks to buy them from!

I’m in the New York Times!?

Whoa! I’m so thrilled to share that The Honest Truth got reviewed in the New York Times! And it was a good review!

Could somebody pinch me?

Cynthia Kadohata (an author I immensely respect) wrote a great, thoughtful review of my book and Wish Girl by Nikki Loftin (another author of great admiration) in the New York Times Book Review for Sunday, March 15.

I am blown away, and so honored.

Here’s the whole, beautiful review: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/15/books/review/the-honest-truth-and-wish-girl.html?_r=0

A Wall Street Journal Write-Up!

The Honest Truth got a great little write-up in the Wall Street Journal! In an article by Meghan Cox Gurdon about the 4oth anniversary of the middle grade classic Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt, the author describes several other middle grade and YA books that deal with death – and includes a nice summary and pitch of  The Honest Truth. It was such a thrill to see my own name in the pages of such a distinguished paper! Here’s a link to the whole article: http://www.wsj.com/articles/childrens-books-death-and-other-perils-1422049839

I’m Gonna be at NCTE in November!

I am so excited to be attending the NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) Annual Convention on November 22nd and 23rd! Held near Washington, D.C., the convention is the annual gathering of teachers and librarians from across the nation. I’ll be attending the M.R. Robinson Reception & Dinner on Saturday night, and will be performing along with some other authors at the Scholastic Literary Brunch on Sunday morning. Lots of advanced copies of my book will also be handed out at the Scholastic Booth (#812) and at the ALAN Workshop. If you’ll be there I’d love to meet you!
